Davis Moo-nlight Half Marathon

I realize that I forgot to post this earlier!

Anyhow, I took a break from bar studying to run my 3rd half marathon. It's at Davis, a small college town about an hour from San Francisco. The half marathon begins at 7:00, shortly before sunset, and during the race runners are given glow sticks and light up necklaces. After the race, there are concerts and lots of beer. I always thought it was not healthy to drink alcohol after running, but maybe that's a myth? Anyhow, I couldn't go to the festivities because I had to go back home to study.

The beginning of the race was great. I had been feeling energetic, and easily made it through the first 5 miles. Around mil 5 however, my knee suddenly started to hurt a lot. By mile 9 it was excruciating. I'm not sure what I did, but I was no longer able to bend my knee. I wanted to finish the race because the medal is so nice (and also because I hate quitting things mid way). I ended up finishing in about 2.5 hours. My time was okay because I had been running so quickly during the first part of it.

The medal from the race glows in the dark, and we also got a glow in the dark technical shirt.

After the race though, I realized that I really injured both my knee and ankle. I have still been resting, and hopefully I'll still be able to run the New York Marathon in November. I'm going to start on the elliptical this week, and will hopefully be doing some light running by the end of August!
