Central Park

I live right next to Central Park, and don't go as often as I would like to. Being a tourist attraction, it is quite crowded, but since it's such a big space you can still walk around. I suppose that's the standard for New York--you can walk around. After living here for more than four years, my concept of space, including personal space, has changed. In the subway, people will literally be pressed against me, breathing on me, during rush hour. To me, not crowded means not as crowded as Times Square. Large room means more than 12 ft by 12 ft.

Central Park however, is indeed very large for a Park. It starts at around 110th street, ends at 59th street, and spans several avenues. In the summer, there are many festivals and performances held inside. When my brother came to visit, we went to the Park to walk off the copious amounts of food that we had eaten at the street festival, only to find that there was a Japan Day celebration, with ramen, okonomiyaki, and other Japanese foods.

There is a large lake that you can rent row boats in, and a smaller pool where you can rent remote controlled sail boats. There is yet another lake that I used to go running around, with a fountain in the center. A loop there is a bit less than a mile (if I remember correctly).
