Vienna, Austria
Today was another day of eating :) Vienna is a vera modern looking city, and while is has a few nice churches it is not as pretty as the other cities I have visited; for beauty it is closer to the ranking of Oslo. But then again, all I saw today was the center. I am considering going to Salzburg the day after tommorow, and from there taking a train to Budapest. Salzburg supposedly has some beautiful mountains.
I managed to cancel the second daz of my hostel, and after doing so I went to the cety center and ate stuff. For dinner/lunch (I ate a bunch of bread at the station for brunch) I ate this really good tilapia with cheese and tomatoes with really good grilled vegetables. This is one of the few times I have enjoyed western cooked vegetables.
There are many candy stores in Vienna, many feturing this brand of chocolate called "Mozart". I tried that before and do not recall liking it that much. I brought a small sampler pack of Austrian candy (I think it i Austrian) which had all sorts of candied nuts, a coconut ball, caramels, jellies and chocolates...a lot had some weird filling, and there was even a chocolate covered prune that I thought was kind of gross. My favorite was this Marzipan walnut candy.
I will probably get diabete in Vienna.
After the candy I had had enough sweets, but I passed a gelato place that was quite big and completely packed with people. I figured it MUST be good so I had to try it. I got the smallest size, which still allowed you to choose from 3 flavors. The man working at the ice cream place was fat and happy. It makes me smile to see cheerful people making food. Anyhow, I got tiramisu, pistachio and yogurt flavors. So far the best gelato I had was in Berlin, but this Austrian place was even better!! The pistachio was too strong, the tiramisu was good, but the yogurt was amazing! Yogurt flavored gelato is now my new favorite dessert! This awesome gelato place, by the way, is called Zanoti Zanoti. I plan to go again tommorow :D Also, this gelato place is much cheaper than ice cream in the US. Well...not that much cheaper, but slightlz cheaper and a better value.
I wandered around Stevenplaty, the main square and found a small bookstore that sold English books, so I bought one. I have been wanting to have something to read for a while, and seeing the text in English some how make me feel a little happier when I am surrounded by an unfamiliar language.
Finally I have chance to do my laundry! I do not like this hostel because I feel like they implied that laundry was free but it is 6 euros. They also said they have free internet access, but only wireless. Kind of deceiving. I plan to rest at my hostel for the rest of the day since I am still tired from going out a lot in Prague. Also, the location of my hostel is very bad. It is close to many strip clubs, and run down stores. I do not feel safe here going out at night. I will be changing hostels tommorow.
